Silk Saree for Winter: Pothys Weaves Made for the Cold Months

December changes what you reach for in the cupboard. Mornings turn foggy across North India, evenings get a chill even in the South, and the wedding calendar is at its busiest. A silk saree for winter has two jobs. It has to look festive in a mandap or a reception hall, and it has to keep you comfortable once the sun goes down.

Silk handles both better than most fabrics. Dense mulberry weaves hold warmth close to the body, while textured silks like tussar and dupion add body without adding bulk. Pothys has been in the saree trade since 1923, and its winter picks bring together the weaves that suit cooler weather, from Kanchipuram silk sarees with heavy zari borders to the golden-toned Banarasi tussar sarees made for daytime functions.
